This post is for all my blogging friends! If you are looking for a new foodie recipe, go check out my post on The Melrose Family Blog for an Easy Mixed Berry Overnight Oats! It’s amazing and so easy!
During the first year of PancakeWarriors we made a number of blogging mistakes. Besides the usual mistakes like thinking “If you built it they will come”, we also made some very common blogging mistakes. Let’s not even talk about my horrible iPhone pictures! Oh lord 🙁 Check them out later, here!
About a year into our blog, Dave spent 3 months adding SEO, updating our keywords, pictures, etc. Things that would have been much easier had we known about them in the beginning. I have to admit for the first 6 months or so we were underwater. We worked really hard to get a new post out, only to have about 1,000 people (or less) per month come to our blog. And some of those months I swear the only reason we got noticed was because of What I Ate Wednesday.
We got frustrated and I found out about Facebook groups with other bloggers. Jackpot (or so I thought). I love these groups, I’m apart of no less than probably 100 (although I don’t participate in as many as I used to). These groups are a great way to share your current post, get some Pinterest love, and even gain some new followers. But fast forward 6 months. Our blogs social media is beyond stagnant. WTF? How come no one comments, likes or shares our stuff on social media unless I’m posting everyday to these groups?Blogging Mistakes. I've made a ton! Here's what I've learned! @PancakeWarrior_ Click To Tweet
At this point I had figured out how to get traction from places like Pinterest and all that SEO magic Dave did was starting to bring us organic search traffic. But social media was dead! 🙁
Check out this amazing article Dave wrote about Social Media Engagement and the Like 4 Like (Facebook) and Follow 4 Follow (Insta/Twitter) groups on Blog-Rite today! This article may really open your eyes about likes vs engagement and how your efforts to try to get more likes may actually be the cause of your limited Facebook group engagement.
Fast forward to today and our blog gets around 120K+ views monthly and PancakeWarriors isn’t even 2 years old yet (Anniversary is coming up this August!). I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store. Dave is working hard on Blogger Optimization Network, a place for all things blogging. Every problem/question/mistake we made on PancakeWarriors, we documented and Dave has addressed these issues, provides easy to follow videos that will help anyone that is feeling overwhelmed by blogging. Dave is passionate about helping bloggers be successful.
As new bloggers it’s so easy to spend all your time trying to figure out the little back end details and we forget why we started blogging in the first place. This can take the passion out of blogging and leave us with frustration. I was so passionate about what I was sharing and wanted to share but if I didn’t have Dave as a resource I would have spent so many nights on Google trying to figure everything out and none of the time I wanted to in the kitchen to make amazing food. Dave wants blogging to be as fun and exciting for others as it has been for me! So he has spent all his free time creating a resource for bloggers so they can get back to doing what they love and still be able to tackle the crazy technical stuff without losing their passion!
Be sure to follow Blog-Rite on Facebook and Instagram, Dave will be doing flash sales and a giveaway or two of Blogger Optimization Network when it launches in March. Until then, sign up for access to free content!
